Adrian Dunkley is a Physicist and AI Scientist who has spent over 15 years building artificial intelligence that works, not in theory, but in the real world. As the founder of StarApple AI, the Caribbean's First AI Company, he develops solutions across disciplines, from fraud prevention and financial inclusion to climate resilience, education, and public safety. Physics taught him how to see systems. AI gave him the tools to change them.
He is also a lover of cinema and books, a lifelong Star Trek and Star Wars devotee who found his passion on the screen and chose to pursue making the fiction a reality, to better humanity. The idea that technology could be a civilising force, that it could lift people rather than sort them, has driven everything he has built since.
Adrian grew up with neurodivergence and learning disabilities in a world that did not always know how to see him. What carried him through was a remarkable community: teachers who believed when systems failed, artists who sparked imagination, financiers who took the chance, and a family whose roots span cultures and continents. That melting pot shaped not just who he is, but how he builds. Today he builds AI that refuses to leave people behind.
He served as President of the Jamaica Technology and Digital Alliance (2022 to 2024), and continues as a member of the Forbes Tech Council, a Member of the National AI Task Force, a Board Member of CrimeStop Jamaica, and a member of the UWI Climate Studies Group.
Son of the Caribbean
Financial Services
AI risk-scoring models deployed with banks, credit unions, and fintechs across the Caribbean, expanding access to credit for micro-entrepreneurs and informal workers previously shut out of the financial system.
Climate Intelligence
As a member of the UWI Climate Studies Group, integrating AI into Caribbean climate models to improve hurricane planning, agricultural decisions, and emergency response for governments across the region.
Caribbean AI Company
The Caribbean's First AI Company, delivering intelligent systems across fraud prevention, financial inclusion, public safety, and climate resilience. StarApple AI proves that world-class AI can be built right here in the Caribbean, for the Caribbean and the world.
National Policy
Leading the LATAMC AI Playbook Initiative, a first-of-its-kind framework for Caribbean and Latin American countries. The playbook brings together over 15,000 evidence-based AI use cases mapped across every sector and industry, giving governments and businesses a clear, actionable path to responsible AI adoption.
Sports Science
Launching the Sports AI Lab and SportsBrain, funded by the Jamaican Government to advance Sports Intelligence and Sports Nutrition for Jamaica's elite and grassroots athletes. Where physics, data science, and human performance converge to build the next generation of Caribbean champions.
Tourism AI
A Tourism AI startup building gamified experiences powered by Artificial Intelligence and Location Intelligence, supported by the Tourism Enhancement Fund. Turning Jamaica's greatest industry into a living, intelligent, interactive adventure that visitors never forget.
The Mission
1,000,000
Give one million people ten more years of life - with a better quality of life - through the intelligent application of AI to healthcare, nutrition, financial inclusion, climate resilience, and education. This is not a metaphor. It is the design brief for every company and every lab in this portfolio.
Generational
Build generational wealth - for family, for the communities served, and for a Caribbean region that has been economically marginalised for too long. AI must be a tool of ownership and self-determination, not extraction. The Caribbean will own its AI future.
Everything Adrian Dunkley builds - StarApple AI, the four AI Labs, the LATAMC Playbook, The Genius Project, seven years of free AI training - serves one or both of these goals. Not vision statements. Engineering requirements.
The Caribbean doesn't need permission to lead.
Adrian DunkleyGiving Back
Long before the accolades, Adrian was doing the work that does not make headlines. For over a decade he has shown up for communities, students, governments, and causes that need real solutions, not promises. This is that record.
When Hurricane Melissa struck, Adrian mobilised relief at a personal level: millions donated and goods distributed directly to affected communities. No fanfare, just action when it was needed most.
Every week for over seven years, Adrian has run free AI training sessions for students across the Caribbean. Thousands of young people have gained practical, career-ready AI skills at no cost.
The nonprofit Adrian founded to develop youth through Critical Thinking, AI, and Technology. Graduates do not just leave with skills. They leave with equity stakes and capital to launch their own ventures.
Serving on boards for National Security, Education (Chair, CMU Engineering Advisory Board), and Business Development (UCC), bringing AI literacy and strategic clarity to the institutions that shape the region.
Building tools to map safety conditions worldwide so that every traveller, every family, and every community can move through the world with confidence. Safety data and intelligence for everyone, not just the few.
Years of consulting, strategy, and technical work donated to governments and nonprofits who needed it most. Because real change cannot wait for a budget cycle.
Philosophy
The 'A' in STEAM, Art, is a powerful catalyst for fair and equitable AI development. Adrian's concept of Artful Intelligence begins with a simple but urgent truth: the humans building AI are not representative of all humanity, and that gap has consequences.
When technology is built without the voices of the Caribbean, Africa, the Global South, when it is trained on data that erases entire dialects, cultures, and lived realities, it cannot serve them. Artful Intelligence demands that every group, every culture, every community has a hand in shaping the AI that will shape their future.
This is not idealism. It is engineering. Diverse perspectives produce more robust, more creative, more resilient systems and a more just world.
